Starlog #6: “Computers make excellent and efficient servants, but I have no wish to serve under them.” -Spock

Scott asked, “What Star Trek technology is on your list of must-haves?” Could the Star Trek universe exist without this type of technology? How would it be better (or worse) with (or without) this technology? Be sure to use evidence to support your argument.

Gosh I can’t just pick the one tech I would have on my must-haves list!

The obvious choice for many would be that transporter, just zapping from one place to another. You gain time, less frustration in traffic jams, less accidents (if we take in account the transporter works without side effects) and so on.

Some people argue it would make people lazy, less appreciative of the journey instead of ending up immediately at their destination. In Star Trek it is done well but I can imagine cooperate businesses and the government to try and get hold of that tech, claim the rights to use it, travel with it and at what price? It is for everyone in ST but I can’t help but imagine how it came to be.

There are so many techs I would want; tricorder, Holodeck, sonic shower, a freaking whole actual Spaceship!

But as someone who suffers from an auto-immune disease I would wish for all the medical tech; medical tricorders and scanners. BOOM you know what’s wrong what you and how to medicate it or what surgery you might need to save your life. Your life expectancy is longer, less people sick or having to live in fear. Cancer…AIDS…all these just gone. Tumors, even genetic diseases could be cured.

Is there a down-side to that? Maybe the wrong people trying to find a disease that cannot be treated by said technology? Biological warfare?

In any case here’s to Elon Musk and his Starship, may it be the beginnings of the Enterprise ^_^
